Is it time to reconsider PSA tests for Prostate Cancer? - CTech

Image
What is common for Ben Stiller, John Kerry, Rod Stewart, Robert De-Niro, Warren Buffett, Gadi Eizenkot, and Ehud Olmert? They all were diagnosed with prostate cancer and shared their experience dealing with the disease. If you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, or if you are living with the side effects of prostate cancer treatment, you are not alone. Numerous men all around the world are diagnosed with this common cancer, which affects about one in nine men. Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer diagnosed in men, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men, after lung cancer, with more than 1.4 million men diagnosed yearly globally. 1 View gallery Itay Barnea is the CEO of BioProtect ( Photo: BioProtect ) However, is this a real disease that eventually will find any man that will live enough years? Or do we just test too many men without any real need? Screening for prostate cancer is a long-time contentious issue in debate. Should healthy men, with no

Cleveland Clinic Receives $7.9 Million Grant from National Institutes of Health to Form Radiation Oncology-Biology Integration Network (ROBIN) - Cleveland Clinic Newsroom

Cleveland Clinic received a $7.9 million five-year grant from the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health to form one of three national centers as part of the newly established Radiation Oncology-Biology Integration Network (ROBIN).   Timothy Chan, M.D., Ph.D. Timothy Chan, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the Center for Immunotherapy and Precision Immuno-Oncology, will serve as the primary investigator of Cleveland Clinic's ROBIN center, which will investigate the molecular mechanisms and biology of radiation therapy response and treatment efficacy of radiation and immunotherapy combinations for cancers of the bladder and head and neck. "Radiation therapy is a bedrock of cancer treatment, with about two out of every three patients with cancer receiving it," said Dr. Chan. "Yet, despite its widespread use, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms and biology of response to radiation remains poor. The ROBIN center will enable u

Potential biomarkers and immune characteristics of small bowel adenocarcinoma | Scientific Reports - Nature.com

Image
Abstract Small bowel adenocarcinoma (SBA) is a gastrointestinal malignancy with low incidence but poor prognosis, and its pathogenesis is still unclear. This study aimed to explore potential disease-causing biomarkers of SBA. The gene expression datasets of SBA and normal samples were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. First, differential gene expression analysis and weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) were performed. Common genes (CGs) were obtained by intersection of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and optimal modal genes of WGCNA. Subsequently, a protein‒protein interaction network was established to screen hub genes, and target genes were obtained by Lasso regression analysis of hub genes. An SBA risk prediction model was established based on target genes. The prediction accuracy of the model was evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The levels of immune cell infiltration and activation of immune path

Multiple Myeloma Skin Conditions: Types and Treatments - Healthline

Multiple myeloma, also called myeloma, is a rare blood cancer that's estimated to currently affect about 100,000 people in the United States. It makes up about 1 percent of new cancers in people of European descent and 2 percent of cancers in people of African descent. The urethra is a thin tube through which urine from the bladder leaves the body. The urethra is about 8 inches long and allows for the passage of semen and urine in men. The urethra in women is about 1.5 inches long and only transports urine. Malignant cells rarely arise in the urethra. In fact, urethral cancer is the rarest form of urological cancer. It accounts for less than 1% of all cancer cases. There is a slightly higher prevalence of urethral cancer in Black Americans and in men compared to women. This article discusses the symptoms, causes, and treatments of urethral cancer.
