How Cancer Is Treated
Here Are 5 Signs Of Cancer In Men And Women That Are Often Ignored
Cancer is a formidable adversary, often presenting itself in subtle ways that can be easily overlooked. While some symptoms may seem benign, it's crucial to pay attention to changes in our bodies. Here are some of the most ignored cancer symptoms in both women and men.
Body RashA rash on the skin is not always benign and can be a symptom of certain cancers. Skin changes, especially persistent rashes that do not respond to typical treatments, should be examined by a healthcare professional. Skin manifestations can sometimes be an external reflection of internal health issues, including cancer, said the Cancer Research UK.
Throat PainPersistent throat pain or discomfort, often disregarded as a common cold or seasonal flu symptom, can be associated with cancers of the throat or oesophagus. A study published by researchers from the Dental School of Universidade Bandeirante shared that throat pain is often the most common symptom of oral cancer.
Regular throat pain that persists beyond the usual duration warrants medical attention to rule out potential underlying issues.
Changes in Bowel or Bladder HabitsAlterations in bowel or bladder habits often go unnoticed or are attributed to dietary changes. However, persistent changes, such as blood in the stool or urine, can be indicative of colorectal or bladder cancers, according to a study published in the United European Gastroenterology Journal. Ignoring these signs may delay diagnosis and treatment.

Eye PainEye pain is commonly linked to eye strain or minor irritations. However, persistent or severe eye pain could be a sign of eye cancer or other serious conditions, according to Cancer Research UK. It's essential not to dismiss eye discomfort and to consult with an eye care professional if the pain persists.
Persistent FatigueFatigue is a common symptom in our fast-paced lives, but persistent, unexplained fatigue can be a subtle indicator of an underlying health issue, including cancer. According to a study published in Nature Reviews: Clinical Oncology, fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of cancer, and may even persist years after treatment is completed.
Many individuals dismiss prolonged exhaustion as a consequence of stress or a hectic schedule, not realising it could be a red flag for an undetected cancer.

Five Common Symptoms Of Stomach Cancer
(MENAFN- IANS) New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANSlife) Stomach cancer, a less frequently discussed but significant health concern, poses a substantial risk when symptoms go unnoticed or are misinterpreted. This urgency stems from the often subtle nature of these signs, potentially leading to delayed diagnoses and more challenging treatments.
Dr Sukhvinder Singh Saggu, Director of Minimal Access, GI & Bariatric Surgery at the CK Birla Hospital (R), Delhi delves into the importance of recognizing and addressing five common symptoms that could be indicative of stomach cancer:
Persistent Abdominal Discomfort – A warning sign
The first and foremost symptom to be aware of is persistent abdominal discomfort or pain. Frequently mistaken for indigestion or minor digestive issues, enduring pain in the upper abdomen could be an early indication of stomach cancer. Seeking medical advice becomes crucial when this discomfort persists despite over-the-counter medications or lifestyle changes.
Unexplained Weight Loss – Not always positive
Unintentional weight loss, without changes in diet or exercise, is another red flag for stomach cancer. While shedding pounds might not initially raise concerns, when coupled with symptoms like abdominal pain, it could signify an underlying health issue that requires prompt attention.
Persistent Nausea and Vomiting: A symptom requires investigating
Persistent nausea and vomiting, particularly after meals, should not be dismissed lightly. While occasional nausea can have various causes, persistent bouts, especially after eating, could indicate gastric concerns requiring medical assessment.
Difficulty Swallowing (Dysphagia): Immediate attention required
Difficulty swallowing, known as dysphagia, is a symptom demanding immediate attention. Starting with challenges in swallowing solid foods and progressing to liquids as cancer advances, individuals experiencing this symptom should promptly consult healthcare professionals for a thorough evaluation.
Unexplained Fatigue and Weakness: An indication of underlying issues
Unexplained fatigue and weakness, persisting despite adequate rest, could be indicative of an underlying health issue, including stomach cancer. Often overlooked or attributed to daily stressors, persistent fatigue, especially when combined with other symptoms, necessitates a thorough medical evaluation.
"It is important to remember that although stomach cancer could be the cause of these symptoms, other benign illnesses could also be the cause. For a proper evaluation and diagnosis, anyone exhibiting these warning signs should seek medical assistance as soon as possible, since early detection considerably improves treatment outcomes. Furthermore, raising awareness is essential to combating stomach cancer. Acquiring knowledge about these indications and promoting prompt medical attention can significantly impact early identification and favourable treatment results. Frequent check-ups and honest contact with medical professionals can help with early intervention, which may even save lives." says Dr Sukhvinder Singh Saggu.
"It's critical to recognize and act upon the subtle indicators of stomach cancer. People can take proactive measures toward their health and well-being by swiftly addressing these symptoms and getting medical guidance. This could result in an earlier diagnosis and more successful treatment options."

How To Differentiate Between Stomach Ache And Stomach Cancer Symptoms? Expert Speaks
Stomach cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and the third leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Usually stomach cancer begins near the lining of the stomach. There are several symptoms of developing cancer and having proper information and awareness can help with timely intervention and proper treatment. Apart from bloating, stomach pain is a common sign. But how do we exactly between normal stomach ache and cancer pain?
To understand the difference, India.Com got in touch with Dr. Subhash Agal Head of Gastroenterology, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. He explained the risk factors and the difference.
Stomach Cancer SymptomsRisk factors include diet (smoked, pickled and processed foods), Helicobacter pylori infection, obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption and family history of stomach cancer. Helicobacter pylori bacteria also cause non-cancerous stomach ulcers. Early symptoms of stomach cancer include heartburn, bloating, upper abdominal pain, nausea, belching and loss of appetite. There is a great degree of overlap of symptoms between dyspepsia and stomach cancer.
There is no single specific symptom of stomach cancer. Therefore if one has symptoms and also has risk factors as mentioned above, it's better to clarify the diagnosis with the help of endoscopy. Late symptoms include weight loss, pallor, and jaundice, vomiting of blood, difficulty in swallowing and black stools. The latter symptoms generally point towards the possibility of stomach cancer and should not be taken lightly. One should consult a Gastroenterologist even in the presence of early symptoms as described above because early diagnosis is the key to curative treatment.
How to Differentiate Between Normal Stomach Ache and Signs of Stomach Cancer?Distinguishing between a normal stomach ache and potential signs of stomach cancer relies on a few key differences. A regular stomach ache often arises from temporary triggers like indigestion, typically resolves within a short period, and isn't persistent. On the other hand, signs of stomach cancer include persistent and worsening pain, unexplained weight loss, persistent nausea or vomiting (especially if there's blood), loss of appetite, difficulty in swallowing, and the presence of blood in vomit or stools. These symptoms, especially when they persist or intensify, should prompt a consultation with a healthcare professional for a proper evaluation and diagnosis. While concerning, these symptoms don't always signify cancer, as various conditions can manifest similarly. Consulting a doctor is essential for accurate assessment and guidance.
Ways to Lower Risk of Stomach CancerLowering the risk of stomach cancer involves maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while limiting processed foods, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol, practising proper food hygiene, maintaining a healthy weight through regular exercise, addressing H. Pylori infections promptly, and discussing any persistent symptoms or family history of stomach cancer with healthcare providers for tailored guidance and screenings.
Stomach cancer treatment includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, combined modalities and palliative care (if the disease is widespread in the body and the patient has poor general health). Local disease (cancer within the stomach) can be managed with surgery. The Spread of cancer to other organs called metastatic disease can be managed with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. In some cases, chemotherapy before surgery is required to reduce the burden of disease. By staying informed about the causes, advancements in treatment, and taking preventive measures, we can work together to reduce the burden of this disease in the community.
