However, Dr Kubes emphasised that blood in urine isn't always a sign of cancer. He added: "Blood in the urine can have many causes. It does not always mean cancer, it could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or a kidney infection.

"But it could also be something much more serious, so it's imperative not to dismiss the signs. Identifying cancer as soon as possible can mean more effective treatment options."
